What is a SHAFT SHARK?

The SHAFT SHARK is a serrated edge circular blade machined from high quality 316L type stain­less steel. It is available as a two-piece/split unit and a single-piece unit. It may be installed on shafts and saildrive systems.

What does it do?

Attached to your shaft just forward of your propeller, it rotates with the shaft or saildrive hub, cutting away any rope, weed or debris that might try to entangle your shaft & propeller.

Why do I need one?

• To keep your propeller free from rope, weeds and underwater debris.

• Eliminate the possibility of damage to your

propeller, strut and cutlass.

• Eliminate the need for being towed due to fouled stern gear or propeller. .

Drag:

The SHAFT SHARK is sized to both the shaft and the propeller or saildrive hub diameter to ensure the lowest possible drag for the boat.

Maintenance:

With no moving parts maintenance is minimal. There are no parts to wear out or to be replaced on an annual basis. The edges can be re-sharpened using a round file or stone.

Installation:

Simple and quick. No drilling or tapping and no need to remove the propeller for installation.

Easily installed underwater by a diver. Models #700 and #900, which are one-piece units, will require removal of the propeller prior to installation.

The SHAFT SHARK requires just a small clearance fore and aft between the cutlass bearing and the propeller hub (see dimension “D” in chart at upper right). This dimension allows for sufficient clearance with the cutlass bearing for shaft movement when maneuvering and for water flow through the cutlass bearing. Always install the SHAFTSHARK as close to the propeller as possible.
